Women Painter's Invitational : COURAGEOUS DIALOGUE   opens June 19, 2022
Picture
Stone Valley Arts hosted the first solo retrospective from American muralist and printmaker Lopi LaRoe May 1- June 6, 2021. The exhibit spanned just under 20 years of art making. The show followed her evolution from studio artist to street artist and the birth of LMNOPI, her street art persona. Interestingly, her evolution went from micro to macro, from miniature oil paintings to large scale murals. The show included selections from her body of oil paintings, and some early examples of her stencil paintings on paper, followed by large scale paintings on paper, including actual detritus from former public works and moving into more contemporary mural studies on board from her recent murals in Vermont.
LaRoe also included examples of activist t-shirts she created for various movements as well as an entire portfolio of limited edition prints from 2019 titled “Uprising” . Although the mediums have changed over time; her voice remains consistent through-out, exploring and documenting civil rights, economic justice and environmental movements. LaRoe relocated to the Green Mountains of Vermont in the fall of 2018 from Brooklyn where she lived for nearly two decades.
She’s committed to making a home in Vermont &
adding value to the community in every way she can.
You can find her online at https://lmnopi.com/

The Meeting of Spirits by Chris Medina

Stone Valley Arts at Fox Hill is delighted to feature the work of
Artist, Sarah Elworthy and Author, Kara Beste

 2nd Floor Gallery
October 1 - November 22

Book launch with Sarah and Kara on Saturday, Oct. 3, 3:30 - 5:00 pm

An exhibit of original batiks created by Sarah Elworthy and text by Kara Beste  from their book  What Leads Her,
highlighting 23 women who lead in a multitude of ways. The women are from different cultures, races, religions,
socioeconomic backgrounds, professions, and lead through their passions and talents. The word LEAD should
not have to fit into a specific box. This book empowers girls 8 and up to find what leads and inspires them to
change the world. There are so many ways to lead, go ahead, be inspired, and find out what leads you!
This book was brought to life through the traditional Indonesian art form of batik.
It is a skill that has been passed down from grandmothers to mothers to daughters.

ART AS SOCIAL COMMENTARY

Picture

Exit, Richard Weis
Artworks seen as social commentary are sparked by incidents and disruptions in our world that weigh on our souls, wake us in the middle of the night, and demand to be addressed. They are symptoms of broader questions about what it is to be human. As an artist, I sometimes find I cannot move forward in my day unless I put brush to canvas and deal with some of the darker side.  Richard D. Weis,  July 2020
