Community clowning (no experience necessary)
Instructor : Lauryn Axelrod
$18 adult/$12 student
Share laughter and joy with your friends and neighbors as a Community Clown. In this workshop, you will learn the basics of European-style clown - harmony/disharmony, balance/imbalance, acceptance, the "flop," saying "Yes" to the "game," and playful curiosity. No juggling, no balloon-tying, no acrobatics, no "scary" clowns, and no previous experience necessary. Just bring your sense of humor, open heart, willingness to try, and an instrument (if you play one). Open to clowns of all ages. Pieces from this workshop might be incorporated into a community performance as part of PLATFORM on October 12.
Instructor: Lauryn Axelrod is a community-based artist and clown ("Olivia Twist"), who performs around the world, both theatrically and as a humanitarian clown in hospitals, rehab centers, refugee camps and orphanages. Originally trained as a dancer, Lauryn began clowning as a theatre major at Bennington College. She then studied at the Dell'Arte School for Physical Theatre with Ronlin Forman and Joan Schirle, and with Eric de Bont in Spain. She can be found with her nose on at any number of community events, bringing laughter and fun wherever she can.
